Venue:   Courses can be held at either one of our depots in Aberdeen or Glasgow, or alternatively either at your premises or on the current site you are working on. If this is the case, a suitable classroom to accommodate up to 4 delegates for the theory session is required. For further information please discuss with our training team.
Who will benefit from this course?

If you use, supervise or manage the use of cherry pickers or booms then this course is for you! If you need to use two pieces of MEWP (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms) then you should take the dual category course. If you use, supervise or mange the use of electric scissor lifts, you need to take the Ipaf operator category 3a.

Learning Objectives

The objective of the IPAF operator training course is to provide delegates with an understanding of the need for accident prevention, safe operational procedures, emergency descent operations and the responsibilities of the employers and employees. The IPAF course covers the main aims of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and associated regulations. There is also information on the LOLER regulations in respect of MEWPS (Mobile Elevating Work Platforms)

 

Method

 Instruction both in theory and practical sessions.

PPE  You are required to either bring your own harness or you can purchase one at our Access Plus depot. You will be required to wear suitable head/foot protection during the practical session
Course Content  

Course Content

All IPAF courses comprise of three modules:

Module One - Theoretical Aspects of Mobile Access Work Platform Operation

  •                         Identification and understanding of operational hazards
  •                         Requirement, procedure and benefits of pre-operational inspection
  •                         Procedure and benefits of full function testing
  •                         Procedure and identification of specific site hazards
  •                         Understanding limitations of machine application

 

Module Two - Practical Operation of Mobile Access Work Platform Operation

  •                         Understand and apply correct starting procedures
  •                         Identify proximity of all hazards, both overhead and others
  •                         Travel machine with platform in the correct position
  •                         Correctly position machine in relation to the task
  •                         Deploy stabilisers and level machine
  •                         Stow tools/equipment safely on platform
  •                         Use safety harness
  •                         Raise and lower platform correctly
  •                         Slew and travel correctly
  •                         Mount and dismount the machine correctly

Module Three - Test to evaluate understanding and competence

  •                         Written test - Duration 30 minutes
  •                         Practical test - To safely use the machine to complete a specific task - 30 mins.
Instructor/delegate ratio

Maximum of 1:6

Certificate/Ticket

Delegates successfully completing the course will receive an IPAF Certificate and PAL (Powered Access Licence) Card Valid for 5 years.

Qualifications and experience

It would be envisaged that you will have a good working knowledge of the Work at Height Regulations and Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
