Manual Handling Training Course Outline and Aims

The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 require all employers to carry out training for staff who lift or carry loads. Delegates will gain an understanding of regulations as well as practical knowledge of lifting and moving. They will be able to identify potential hazards and risks and determine the safest method of manual handling without injury.

This Manual Handling Training Course run by Access Plus can either be run at our Glasgow depot, Aberdeen Depot, one of our  Edinburgh Training Rooms or at your own premises or surrounding area.  If you are working on site then providing you have adequate facilities we will acomodate you there.

Who will benefit from this Manual Handling Training course?

If you are personally involved in manual handling and lifting at work, or you have to train and /or assess those who are involved in manual handling in the workplace ie employers, managers, supervisors or operatives then this course is for you! In short, if you are responsible in any way for the health and safety of people at work then you should attend this course.

Learning Objectives

On completion of this course you will be able to:

  • Carry out manual handling techniques in a safe and efficient manner
  • Identify and assess potential hazards and choose appropriate methods of risk control, which includes the selection of any lifting equipment that may be required.
  • Summarise the legislation and manual handling regulations that relate to lifting in the workplace.
  • Appreciate the financial impact on the industry caused by injuries from poor manual handling.
Method

Instruction both in theory and practical sessions with assessments. There will be a proportion of instructor led group participation and practical exercises in lifiting techniques.

Venue

Training Courses can be held at either one of our depots in Aberdeen or Glasgow, or alternatively either at your premises or on the current site you are working on. If this is the case, a suitable classroom to accommodate up to 12 delegates for the theory session and both an indoor/outdoor practical area are prerequisites. 

Supporting Documents

A course content and notes booklet and a current Code of Practice booklet will be issued to all delegates who attend the course.

Certificate/Ticket for the Manual Handling Course

 An Access Plus Certificate will be issued on completion of this course from our Glasgow depot

Qualifications and experience

No formal qualifications or experience are necessary,other than the desire to be willing to rethink the way in which you lift and handle items at work.
